Easter the most important festival in Christian calendar -
President
President Rajapaksa |
Easter which marks the resurrection of Jesus Christ is considered
most important festival in the Christian calendar because it signifies
conquest of death, and the spirit of renewal and revival that bring hope
to the human race, states President Mahinda Rajapaksa in an Easter
message.
"As Christians the world over celebrate this important festival they
will focus on the deep meaning of love, understanding, tolerance and
compassion that are at the core of Christian teaching."
"This Easter festival has a special significance for the Christians
of Sri Lanka as the country comes closer to overcoming the forces of
terror, bringing peace and understanding to all communities to whom Sri
Lanka is home.
The spirit of love that pervades Christian teaching should help
create trust and understanding among our people.
"It should also extend to all other living beings that share this
earth with us, as well as to the gifts of nature on which all of us
depend for a wholesome life. I wish all Christians of Sri Lanka a happy
and peaceful Easter enriched by the message of love strengthened by
belief in the divinity of the Risen Christ." |
