Agriculture and Agrarian Services Development Minister and SLFP
General Secretary Maithreepala Sirisena yesterday pledged that Public
Service Commission would not be allowed to deprive the privileges
enjoyed by the working class in the country.
The Minister said a decision with regard to the Gazette Notification
issued by the PSC would be taken at today’s Cabinet meeting.
“We will apprise the Government’s stance over this Gazette
Notification to the PSC after today’s Cabinet meeting” the Minister
said.
Minister Sirisena was addressing the Workers Summit held at the
Viharamahadevi open air theatre under the theme of ‘Let’s build the
country’. “The Government led by President Mahinda Raja-paksa has taken
all measures to ensure that working class is not deprived of their
rights and PSC would not be allowed to implement what is laid down in
the Special Gazette Notification, he said.
“It is reported that President Rajapaksa is not happy with the
Special Gazette Notification issued by the PSC.
“The Parliament, Cabinet of Ministers or the President were not
consulted before the Gazette Notification was issued,” the Minister
said.
The Minister said that certain political parties are engaged in
gaining political mileage through this Gazette Notification by inciting
the workers and trade unions.
The Minister said the working masses put their lives at risk to win
these privileges and the Government will not allow anyone to deprive the
rights of the working class under any circumstances. |
