Scholarship for police officers’ children

Inspector General of Police Jayantha Wickremaratne distributed
seventeen scholarships to the children of policemen who had lost their
mother or father in the ongoing war, at the Junior Police Officers’
Union office at Chaithya Road, Colombo.
Addressing Police children and members of their families the IGP paid
a tribute to members of the Junior Police Officers’ Union for their
effort in organising an event to distribute cash and stationery to the
needy police children. “The Junior Police Officers Union is the heart of
the Police Department, the IGP said.
The police children who are living in outstations will receive their
scholarships through the OICs of the respective police stations, the IGP
added.
The IGP emphasised that he is prepared to assist in building houses
for family members of the police affected by the war. “We are not only
looking after the departed police officers’ families, but also the
police personnel who are obtaining treatment in several hospitals in the
country.
We have not forgotten the disabled policemen,” the IGP added. The IGP
told members of police families to write to him direct about their needs
and that he will take prompt action without any delay to solve these
problems. Senior DIGs N.K. Illangakoon, Jayantha Gamage, Colombo DIG
Herath, DIGs D.S.R. Wanaguru, Chandra Wickremaratne, CID Director Muthu
Banda, Senior SPs Daya Samaraweera and Thilak Wijegunawardena and
Samarasekera also participated in the event.
The children and other members were hosted to lunch after the
ceremony. |
