Scholarship for police officers’ children

Inspector General of Police Jayantha Wickremaratne distributed seventeen scholarships to the children of policemen who had lost their mother or father in the ongoing war, at the Junior Police Officers’ Union office at Chaithya Road, Colombo.

Addressing Police children and members of their families the IGP paid a tribute to members of the Junior Police Officers’ Union for their effort in organising an event to distribute cash and stationery to the needy police children. “The Junior Police Officers Union is the heart of the Police Department, the IGP said.

The police children who are living in outstations will receive their scholarships through the OICs of the respective police stations, the IGP added.

The IGP emphasised that he is prepared to assist in building houses for family members of the police affected by the war. “We are not only looking after the departed police officers’ families, but also the police personnel who are obtaining treatment in several hospitals in the country.

We have not forgotten the disabled policemen,” the IGP added. The IGP told members of police families to write to him direct about their needs and that he will take prompt action without any delay to solve these problems. Senior DIGs N.K. Illangakoon, Jayantha Gamage, Colombo DIG Herath, DIGs D.S.R. Wanaguru, Chandra Wickremaratne, CID Director Muthu Banda, Senior SPs Daya Samaraweera and Thilak Wijegunawardena and Samarasekera also participated in the event.

The children and other members were hosted to lunch after the ceremony.
