Bogus kachcheri near A’pura police station raided

The District Vice Squad of the North Central Province DIG’s office raided a bogus kachcheri and arrested a suspect and took a large number of forged documents into custody.

The detection was made by ASP Jagath Saram on the directions of North Central Province DIG Asoka Wijetilake who had acted on a tip-off.

Police have taken into custody a large consignment of printed forms used in various branches of the kachcheri and a large number of forged franks and rubber seals similar to those used by Heads of Departments in the kachcheri.

Investigations revealed that the bogus kachcheri had been in operation for nearly 15 years in the rear portion of a grocery shop in Kada Dolaha directly opposite the kachcheri in the vicinity of the police station.

The suspect has been identified as a retired employee of the Anuradhapura kachcheri.

Police are investigating to trace a large number of persons who had patronised this bogus kachcheri and issued bogus certificates, permits and various forged documents by the suspect.

Anuradhapura Additional Magistrate Sivantha Manchanayake remanded the suspect for 14 days pending investigations.
