Liga de Quito beats Palmeiras 3-2

Liga de Quito opened the defense of its Copa Libertadores title with a 3-2 win over Brazil visitor Palmeiras on Tuesday.

Damian Manso set up Walter Calderon twice and scored the winner for Liga after Palmeiras twice came from behind to level the Group 1 match.

Manso fed Calderon to head in the first goal in the 24th minute. Five minutes later Willians took advantage of a rebounded Diego de Souza shot saved by goalkeeper Jose Francisco Cevallos to equalize.

Calderon ran onto a pass from Manso, goalkeeper Marcos made a mess of his clearance and Calderon slipped the ball home in the 35th. But Palmeiras emerged from the break by immediately pressuring Liga, and needed only two minute to level again thanks to captain Edmilson from a free kick.
