Navy ferries more civilians

Naval personnel engaged in the humanitarian mission to rescue trapped civilians in Mullaithivu provided safe passage to a group of sick and wounded civilians from Mullaithivu to Trincomalee.

The journey covered 7 nautical miles to the No Fire Zone from Wellamalliwaikal to Puthumathulam in Mullaithivu.

Addressing the media at the MCNS, Navy spokesman Commander D.K.P. Dassanayake said that Naval troops are engaged in a humanitarian mission to rescue and ferry trapped civilians in Mullaitivu. "We assisted the Green Ocean vessel thrice ferry the sick and wounded civilians from Mullaitivu to Trincomalee facilitated by the ICRC. These civilians are being treated at the Trincomalee hospital", he added.

He said the naval personnel also engaged in unloading 40 Mts of relief items dispatched by the Government to IDPs in Mullaitivu. "The Mannar-Murunkan road is under the control of the Navy", he added.
