Uniforms to all private bus crew, Gamunu assures
SHIRLEY Wijesinghe
President, Lanka Private Bus Owner's Association Gemunu Wijerathne
reiterated that following the instructions of the Supreme Court, ticket
issuing machines and uniforms would be provided to all private bus crew
by the end of this month.
Wijerathne added that the association was able to provide only 4,000
uniforms due to shortage of uniform material. However about 90 percent
of bus fleet had been provided with ticket machines. He was speaking at
the Media conference organized yesterday to explain the problems
encountered in the issue of ticket machines and uniform materials to the
bus crew of the Western Province.
Providing ticket machines suffered a setback due to the actions of
some of the companies. One company refused to process the new bus fare
rates after anomalies were removed in regard to fares on certain routes
especially in the remote areas, Wijerathna said.
Legal action will be taken against those who paste posters on buses
during ongoing political campaigns, he said.
He appealed to the public not to hesitate to bring such instances to
his notice.
