Rs. 70,000 m for Moragahakanda project

Chief Government Whip Minister Dinesh Gunawardane told Parliament
yesterday a sum of Rs. 70,000 million has been allocated for the
construction of Moragahakanda - Kaluganga project which is scheduled to
be completed within seven years.
Responding to a question raised by the JVP MP Anura Dissanayake, the
Minister said a sum of Rs. 3,600 million has been allocated for the
construction work of the project this year.
According to the estimated figures. Rs. 12,000 million has been
allocated for the year 2010 and Rs. 18.000 million for the year 2011 to
continue the construction work of the project. In addition, Rs. 20,000
million and Rs. 14,900 million have been reserved to conduct the project
in year 2012 and 2013 respectively. A sum of Rs. 1500 million has been
spent for the constructions of the project during the year 2007 and
2008. The Minister said 2,200 families will be displaced due to this
project. Arrangements have been made to re-settle these families in
Kawdulla area and left bank and right bank of Kaluganga Each family will
be given half acre of upland for settlement and one and half acres of
irrigated land for cultivation. Steps will also be taken to provide the
necessary social and infrastructure facilities to these families.
