UN official here today

UN Under Secretary General on Humanitarian Affairs John Holmes will arrive in Sri Lanka today for a two day visit on the invitation of Foreign Minister Rohitha Bogollagama.

Holmes will discuss issues relating to humanitarian affairs and assistance with President Mahinda Rajapaksa and top Government officials.

According to the Foreign Minister, the UN has been a partner in providing humanitarian assistance to Sri Lanka for a long time and the UN has mobilised all their agencies to help the Sri Lankan Government. "We want everyone to assist Sri Lanka and my call to the International Community is to continue their assistance," he said. The Minister said the Cabinet of Ministers have rejected the appointment of Special British Envoy and that stand remains unchanged.
