Work on this vessel commenced on October 23, 2007 with the laying of
the keel plate and the vessel was launched on July 3, 2008 after steel
work of the hull and superstructure was completed. After launching, the
team of engineers and technicians worked tirelessly to install all
machinery and equipment onboard to complete this vessel on time.
The event marked the successful completion of the third AHTSV of a
series of four vessels that CDPLC has contracted for GGOSL. This will be
the first vessel to fly the Singaporean flag. The first AHTSV Greatship
Anjali was delivered in January 2008 and the second AHTSV Greatship
Amrita was delivered in April 2008 and now Greatship Abha will join them
bearing the Sri Lankan signature operating in international waters.
The design of these vessels were developed by Moss Maritime AS of
Finland, a world renowned ship designing company having expertise and
experience in the field of designing vessels, platforms and floaters
used by the offshore industry.
These AHTSV’s have the capability of anchor handling, towing, fire
fighting as well as that of supplying cargo to offshore installations.
The vessel is specially designed for operation under severe weather
conditions and with high manoeuvrability and station keeping
capabilities.
At an overall length of 63.40 m on a moulded beam of 15.00 m the
vessel has a moulded depth of 6.0 m and a design draft of 4.90 m. The
vessel achieved a speed in excess of 13 knots at the sea trials
conducted.
The project was handled entirely by a team of local engineers and a
skilled work force, augmenting the national shipbuilding industry and
adding value to the nation. This achievement highlights CDPLC as the
pioneering engineering entity locally spearheading the “frontiers of Sri
Lankan Industrialisation”.
This vessel was built in survey to Lloyds Register of Shipping and
Indian Register of Shipping and is registered under the Port of registry
Singapore.
