Ministry welcomes US’s freezing of Tiger front assets
The Foreign Ministry yesterday welcomed the US Government’s move to
freeze the assets of the Maryland based ‘ Tamil Foundation’, which has
been identified as a support body for the LTTE.
A Ministry spokesperson quoting Minister Rohitha Bogollagama said
this action sends a clear message that the US was serious about their
fight against terrorism and sets an example for the other nations to ban
such known organisation on their soil, so that international activities
of the Tigers can be completely wiped out.
The Foreign Ministry had been working closely with the US State
Department since 2007, constantly meeting with authorities to push for
banning LTTE front organisations which collect large sums to nourish the
terror outfit.
The US earlier banned the Tamil Rehabilitation Organisation (TRO) and
freezed their assets. The spokesperson said the EU block is another area
they were currently pursuing. The LTTE’s international arm is said to be
very active in fund raising within the EU. |
