Vanhoff 356 sets new batting record
Dashing middle order batsman Michael Vanhoff shattered a sixteen year
old record for the highest individual score in an under 19 inter school
match when he hammered an epic 356 to help S. Thomas’ College, Kotte
trounce Lalith Athulathmudali MV outright by an innings and 172 runs in
their encounter worked off at Kotte yesterday.
Skipper Vanhoff who has been a prolific run getter for his team this
season collected his runs from 205 deliveries inclusive of 35 sixes and
20 boundaries as the Thomians piled up a mammoth 608 for 4 in their
first innings.
He also established another record by hoisting six sixes in one over
and went on to add a massive 345 runs for the second wicket together
with Akila Weerasinghe. The stylish opener contributed a splendid 137
with the help of one six and 18 boundaries. Vanhoff followed up his
heroics with the bat by claiming a five wicket haul to dismiss the
opposition for 210 in their second innings.
In fact Vanhoff erased the previous record for the highest individual
score of 304 runs scored by Indika de Saram for S. Thomas’ College
Matara against Sri Devananda College Amba-langoda way back in 1993.
