Passing out parade of basic airborne course
The passing out parade of No. 18 basic airborne course was held
colourfully at the sports grounds Sri Lanka Air Force Base, Katunayake.
Air Force Commander Air Marshal W. D. R. M. J. Goonetilleke was the
chief guest while senior officers from Sri Lanka Navy and Sri Lanka Air
Force were also present.
The parents of the trainees were also present. The parade commenced
with a display of static line parachute jump from MI-17 helicopter at
1,000 feet height, later skydiving team of the Air Force performed a
free fall show jumping at 6,000 feet from MI-17 to add more colours to
the event. Commanding officer Squadron Leader P. M. S. M. Pagoda landed
with national flag and school warrant officer Flight Sergeant
Samarasinghe landed with Air Force flag.
Later the viewers got the opportunity to view a drill display by the
ceremonial drill squad and a band display by Air Force band.
The No. 18 basic air borne course consisted of 31 personnel, three
Sri Lanka Air Force Officers, two Navy Officers and 24 and two other
rankers from Sri Lanka Air Force and Navy respectively.
The chief guest awarded the para badges for the trainees. Leading Air
Craftsman H. G. A. P. Bandara adjudged the best para trooper.
