Government health sector employees in the North Central Province are
perturbed over the assault on North Central Provincial Director of
Health Services Dr. W. Attapatthu.
Dr. Attapatthu was allegedly assaulted close to his official
residence opposite the Anuradhapura Teaching Hospital on February 6.
He is being treated for injuries to his face, hands and the back at
the Anuradhapura Teaching Hospital ICU.
Secretary of the Government Medical Officers’ Union Anuradhapura
Branch Dr. Aruna Palitha Sampath said persons responsible for the attack
on the Provincial Director have still not been identified or arrested.
He said Government health service staff in every hospital and other
medical institutes in Anuradhapura district will participate a token
strike tomorrow condemning the attack.
Anuradhapura Teaching Hospital Director Dr. S. Wijekoon said the
provincial director’s condition is not serious.
It is suspected that a party irritated over a contract or a tender
issue would have attacked the doctor. Meanwhile the Government Medical
Officer’ Association vehemently condemned the incident and urged
authorities to bring the offenders to book. |
