Double celebrations - Premier
We are celebrating our National Independence Day this year while also
celebrating the victories of our valiant Armed Forces who are fighting
to free our country of a band of terrorists holed up in the North, Prime
Minister Ratnasiri Wickramanayaka said.
“They are fighting to bring peace to all our people,” the Prime
Minister said in a message to mark Sri Lanka’s Independence Day.
The message: “While they are fighting and also dying, in this noble
cause, there are others as there have been throughout the history of our
country, who are engaged in conspiracies, betrayals and acts of treason.
As a Government, we strive to fulfil the national need at several
fronts with the support of all patriotic people. We are on the right
path.
We are pledged to create a better world for all our people. We pay
tribute not only to all patriots who sacrificed their lives for the
freedom of this land in the past but also to those who are doing so now.
For freedom to be fully savoured let there be peace. And there will
be peace, soon.”
