UPFA campaigns in estate sector
Mahaweli Systems correspondent
The United People’s Freedom Alliance (UPFA) has launched a special
election campaign to get the support of estate workers for its victory
in the up coming Central Provincial Council election - which falls on
February 14.
The UPFA believes that it can rely on estate workers support in the
Central Provincial Council election because the present UPFA Government,
has done a satisfactory service to estate workers of the country.
In line with this special election campaign, a cluster of UPFA
offices are to be located in the tea, rubber and cocoa plantations of
the Kandy, Matale and Nuwara-Eliya districts during the pre-election
period to coordinate UPFA propaganda.
Meanwhile, local UPFA functionaries and supporters are to go far
afield to meet the estate workers in the neighbouring areas, propagating
UPFA policies and urging support and to vote for UPFA candidates in the
fray.
UPFA election campaigners think that most estate workers and their
families have never been further afield than the neighbouring towns, and
as a result, they have no comprehensive understanding of what is
happening elsewhere in terms of political developments or other
development work under the UPFA leadership and guidance. |
