Dr. Amunugama promises relief for craftsmen

Minister Dr. Sarath Amunugama listen to grievances of Craftsmen during the visit to the Embekke Devale.

Public Administration and Home Affairs Minister and Deputy Finance Minister Dr. Sarath Amunugama assured all wood craftsmen that he would have their outstanding problems including the transport of timber discussed with the authorities and provide relief.

Dr. Amunugama said he would also discuss with the Commissioner of Buddhist Affairs about the feasibility of providing a part of the temple income to the families of temple attendants to reduce their hardship.

He gave this assurance when he met families of traditional craftsmen of the historic Embekke Devale, Kandy and to verify the damage caused to the ancient wood carvings due to seepage of rain water.

Problems related to the transport of raw material (wood) were also discussed.
