N-E province get 120 nurses

The Healthcare and Nutrition Ministry appointed 420 nurses on
Thursday. Hundred and twenty will be sent to State hospitals in the
North and East Provinces. The total number of nurses to be sent to
hospitals under the Eastern Provincial Council is 40, a Ministry
spokesman said.
He said 30 nurses will be sent to the Ampara General hospital while
another 20 will be sent to the Jaffna Teaching Hospital. The Batticaloa
Teaching Hospital will get six nurses. Ten nurses will be sent to the
Kalmunai Base hospital. Ashraff Hospital in Kalmunai will receive 10
nurses while the Kantale Base hospital will get 10 nurses.
The ministry has also appointed 10 nurses to the Western Province,
five for the Southern Province, 15 each for Sabaragamuwa, Central, North
Central and North Western Provinces. The number of nurses appointed to
Uva is 25, he added.
The Healthcare and Nutrition Ministry has commenced on the 15,000
nurse recruitment drive to fill vacancies in the health sector. Around
25,000 nurses serve in the State sector.
