Golf Union to host two major C’ships

The Sri Lanka Men’s Open Championship from January 20 to 23 was first played in 1970. The then noteworthy golfers were Pin Fernando, Dr. Lance Fernando and Chrisso Abeywardena who were not only great players but actively promoted golf.

This championship was open to professional and amateur golfers. The leading amateurs played alongside caddies and this championship became a regular event in the SLGU golfing calendar.

The Mackwoods Ladies Golf Championship from January 21 to 23 is open to all amateur lady golfers who are members of a recognised golf club and have certified LGU, USGA or Club Handicap.

The Mackwood Challenge Trophy will be awarded to the player returning the lowest aggregate gross score over 54 holes. (R.D.)
