Pirith at Lotteries Board

An all night Pirith chanting has been organised to mark the Silver jubilee celebrations of the Development Lotteries Board on January 18 at its new office complex, Union Place, Colombo 2. Arrangements have also been made to offer Heel dana to Maha Sangha on January 19.


Gammadu ceremony

The 86th annual Gammadu ceremony at the Neelanmahara Purana Raja Maha Viharaya will be held today under the patronage of Viharadhipathi Ven. Kalubowila Kusalagnana Thera.

The event is organised to invoke blessings on the President, the armed forces, the people and the country.


Thanksgiving and Family Mass

The first thanksgiving mass of the New Year organised by St. Joseph’s College, Colombo NCGE group will be held at the College Chapel on January 18 at 8.30 a.m.

A family breakfast fellowship will follow after the mass.


Peace car rally

The Sri Lanka Vintage Car Owners’ Association will conduct a peace car rally from Colombo to Jaffna along the A-9 highway as a mark of respect to the Security Forces’ personnel who re-established a direct road link between the North and South by taking full control of the highway.

About 15 vintage cars would be featured in this rally.


Hatha Yoga Guru in Sri Lanka

Dr. Srinath Abey, an instructor of Hatha Yoga from Bangalore arrived in Sri Lanka yesterday.

Dr. Abey arrived in Sri Lanka on the invitation of his student T. Nanda Siriwardene who is the Chief Instructor of the Nanda Sri Hantha Yoga Institute for Special Training and Practice.


Water supply interruption

Water supply to towns North of Colombo will be interrupted for 48 hours from 9 a.m. today to facilitate repairs to distribution lines from the Ambatale Filtration Plant, the Water Supply and Drainage Board said.

The towns affected are Peliyagoda, Kelaniya, Dalugama, Mahara, Kadawata, Ragama, Kandana, Ja-Ela, Pamunugama, Welisara, Hendala and Wattala.
