Himesh making his country proud
Himesh Fernando obtained his PhD from Cambridge at the recent
convocation on his thesis in "Selection of g-Quadruplex specific
proteins and their effects on gene expression," that was funded by the
Cambridge Commonwealth Trust . He is the son of Dr. & Mrs. R. P.
Fernando, Matara..
At the Colombo University he obtained a First Class Honours in
Molecular Biology and Biotechnology topping his batch. At the
convocation in 2002, he was awarded four gold medals, two in
Biochemistry, "Justin Samarasekera" award for the most outstanding
Science Student and the prestigious "Canakerathna" Gold Medal for
general merit awarded to a student who showed academic excellence and
also had considerable achievements in extra curricular activities, with
a citation by the Vice Chancellor. At the Colombo University he was the
President of University Amalgamated Club, Rugby captain and brought
pride to the university in Rugby, Hockey and Swimming. He also won
University (SLUSA) colours in Rugby and Hockey.
He hails from S. Thomas' College, Mt. Lavinia where he was the Head
Prefect both in the Upper School and the Lower School. |
