Customs seize biggest contraband

The Customs Central Intelligence Division seized the biggest ever
consignment of contraband which included 16 million cigarettes worth
over Rs. 160 million, two Toyota Land Cruiser valued at over Rs. 40
million, one propeller for speeding boats and a backhoe machine.
Deputy Customs Director, L.M. Nelson said the consignment supported
by fake documents had a bogus address.
The contraband were meticulously arranged in three containers which
were 40 feet long and camouflaged with over 100 bicycles and tyres,
Customs Authorities said.
The contraband will be confiscated, sources said. Investigations are
being conducted by K.H. Dharmakeerthi, Superintendent of Customs, J.
Bangamuwa and A.S. Abeydheera and M.M.C. Kumara Assistant
Superintendents of Customs under the direction of H.M.H.B. Seneviratne,
Assistant Director of Customs. |
