PM to address Narammala rally
Prime Minister Ratanasiri Wickramanayaka will address an election
rally today at the Narammala Public Grounds in support of UPFA
candidates contesting the Wayamba Provincial Council elections.
Dambadeniya SLFP Chief Organiser Shantha Bandara is organising the
rally.
Ministers Dinesh Gunawardena, Rajitha Senaratne and Patali Champika
Ranawaka and Wimal Weerawansa MP will also speak.
Minister to attend Islamabad conference
Parliamentary Affairs Minister M.H. Mohamed Senior Vice President of
Motamar Al Alam Al Islami will leave for Islamabad to attend the annual
conference of the Motamar Al Alam Al Islami, Pakistan on January 16 and
17.
This annual meeting was earlier scheduled to be held in Cairo.
Minister Mohamed is the founder member and Vice President of the
Rabitha Al Alami Al-Islami (World Muslim Congress) Makkah Al Mukarramah
and Constituent Member of the Islamic Solidarity Fund (Office of the
Islamic Conference) and founder Chairman of the Sri Lanka Islamic
Organisation, Colombo which is the counterpart organisation of the
Islamic Development Bank-Jeddah-Saudi Arabia.
Joint worship service
The Churches of the National Christian Council of Sri Lanka and the
Roman Catholic Church will hold a join worship as a commitment on unity
the week of prayer for Christian unity.
The service will be held on January 19 at 6.00 p.m. at the Salvation
Army Church, Union Place (Opposite Nawaloka Hospital), Colombo.
World Meditation Day
The Brahmakumaris Rajayoga Centres worldwide will celebrate the
ascension anniversary of its founder Prajapita Brahma Baba on January
18.
'Day of World Meditation', will also be held to coincide with this
occasion at the BK Rajayoga Centre Peter's Lane Dehiwela, Sunday at 4.00
a.m.
Similar programs will be simultaneously initiated by the BK World
Spiritual University Rajastan India, through its 8,500 centres spread
over 120 other countries including USA, UK, Australia and Japan.
The program is open to all.
Art exhibition, competition
The fifth Art Exhibition and Competition organised by the Arts
Council of Visakha College, Colombo will be held on January 20 and 21 at
the Art Gallery, Colombo.
It will be presided over by the Principal.
Dr. Patrick Ratnayake of the Aesthetic Faculty, Kelaniya University
will be the chief guest.
Thanksgiving mass
A thanksgiving mass organised by the SJC-NCGE group will be held on
January 18 at 8.30 a.m. at the Chapel of St. Joseph's College, Colombo.
A family Breakfast Fellowship will follow.
Blood donation campaign
A blood donation campaign to mark the 20th anniversary of the Sri
Lanka Consumer Cooperative Societies Union club and to commemorate the
third year of the office of Presidency, and to invoke blessings on the
Armed Forces and the Police will be held today at 9.00 am at 11,
Saunders place, Colombo 12. |
