Counselling for Northern citizens expanded

Social Services and Social Welfare Minister Douglas Devananda has taken action to expand psychological counselling services in the Northern Province.

The Minister said psychological counselling services are now in progress islandwide under the Ministry of Social Services and Social Welfare.

When initiated in the North, especial problems prevalent in the locality need to be taken into due consideration.

"As the people in the North including those in Jaffna have been continuously subjected to mental pressure due to various reasons, there is a necessity of implementing the counselling services in an absolute orderly manner with a lots of care and caution," Minister Devananda said.

A discussion was held with the Counselling Assistants serving under the Ministry of Social Services and Social Welfare in the Jaffna district on January 8.

The Minister assured the Counselling Assistants to provide with all facilities to take forward the counselling services in the Northern Province in an orderly manner.
