Mohammed NAALIR
The Board of Investment (BOI) has planned to develop the tourism
sector in tea growing areas titled 'Tea Tourism' under a new concept,
BOI sources said.
Through the implementation of the project foreign and local holiday
makers will get an opportunity to experience the attractive tea estate
environment while enjoying the tea, the sources said.
The first project will be implemented in Madulkele. The BOI signed an
agreement with the investors of Madulkele Tea and Hotel Echologe at the
Enterprise Development and Investment Promotion Ministry recently.
One of the directors of Madulkele Tea and Hotel Echologe said that
considerable attention will be paid to expand the project to other areas
on its success. They intend to complete this project within two years at
a cost of Rs. 79 million.
He said the tourism and tea industry went in different streams and
this attempt would bridge the gap between both sectors.
On completion of the project people in Madulkele and those in the
surrounding will also benefit.
