IMI Diploma in Industrial Management

The Industrial Management Institute (IMI) will commence a Diploma program in Industrial Management on February 2 which has been designed to equip school-leavers to join the industry sector at entry-level executive positions.

The course of study will provide a comprehensive theoretical and practical exposure to many aspects of industrial engineering and production management.

A spokesman for the Institute said that the young people armed with this Diploma can look forward to excellent career prospects in manufacturing, warehousing, distribution and logistics sectors.

The Institute will also facilitate in securing appropriate employment opportunities for students who successfully complete the Diploma.

The Diploma syllabus and course structure has been modelled in line with similar programs offered in India and Malaysia and the practical training has been designed to enable the students to acquire hands-on experience in all aspects of industrial management.

State-of-the-art learning technologies will be used in addition to plenty of modern training techniques which include experiential exercises, case and incident analysis, management games and films.

The students will participate in group work and presentations as an integral component in learning. They will be provided with textbooks and notes by the Institute.

The core modules will consist of Industrial Engineering, Production Management, Quality Management and Material Management.

In addition, the students will be required to take-up two further compulsory modules in General Management and Human Resource Management. Students are also offered several elective modules ranging from Project Management, Operational Research to Occupational Health and Safety to pursue personal career interests.

The teaching faculty comprises many senior professionals and management consultants who have had decades of experience with multinational companies in the manufacturing sector.

IMI's mission is to serve the Sri Lankan industrial sector by developing competencies of people and provide training and consultancy services.

IMI is affiliated to Sri Lanka's broadest network of professional management institutes which comprise the Garment Industry Management Institute, Personality Development Institute and Human Resource Management Institute.

The network has served over 300 leading private sector organisations in the Asian region and trained over 50,000 managerial personnel and 10,000 students since 1986.
