Pension payment delay to end by Jan 31

The Director of Pensions K.A. Thilakarathne yesterday assured that the delay in the payment of commuted pensions would ease by January end.

Asked the reason for such a delay, he said: "It is a regular feature occurring at the end of the year."

Public servants who retired during the course of last year are yet to receive their commuted pensions.

About 15,000 public servants are eligible annually to full pension, according to the provisions of the pension scheme.

The Government increased Rs. 8,000 million for payment of commuted pensions last year.
