More teachers for Central, NWP schools
Dharma Sri ABEYRATNE
Moves are under way to recruit 364 graduate teachers by the Ministry
of Education aiming to overcome the teacher shortage in Central and
Northwestern Provinces.
Under this scheme, the Education Ministry has planned to conduct
interviews shortly based on the result of competitive examination held
in 2007 for recruiting graduate teachers.
Accordingly, 238 graduate teachers will be recruited to the Central
Province while 126 will be recruited to the Northwestern Province. Of
the 364 teachers, 103 are Sinhala medium graduate teachers and 164 are
from the Tamil medium while 97 are English medium teachers.
Discontinuing the prevailing practice, the Education Ministry is
scheduled to implement a new mechanism when recruiting these teachers.
With the implementation of this mechanism, teachers will be recruited
through subject and school based system. According to the scheme the
teachers need no transfers since they reside close to the particular
school to which they have been selected.
Implementing this scheme will result in students having an
uninterrupted teaching program as the teacher who reside close to the
school. |
