‘PC elections aimed at defeating terrorism’
The Provincial Council Elections are aimed at strengthening
sovereignty, defeating terrorism and establishing development,
Healthcare and Nutrition Minister Nimal Siripala de Silva said.
He was addressing several meetings held at four electorates in
Kurunegala district. The Government has appointed the Health Minister as
Chief Organiser in Kurunegala district.
These meetings were held in Bingiriya, Panduwasnuwara, Polgahawela
and Dambadeniya. Media and Information Minister Anura Priyadharshana
Yapa and Vocational Promotion Minister S.B. Nawinna also participated.
The Minister further stated the Government has taken measures to wipe
out terrorism and stabilise development in the country. The forthcoming
Provincial Council elections is very important for the people.
Although many factions are planning secret agendas to defeat the
Government the people’s trust is with the Government. This PC election
is not only an election to appoint PC members or a Chief Minister but to
safeguard sovereignty and Parliament’s supremacy.
Many parties, such as the Ceylon Workers’ Congress, National
Independence Alliance and P. Chandrasekaran’s Group and other patriotic
parties also contest with Government,” he said.
“We can see several UNP and JVP members joining in the SLFP all over
the country. The reason is they don’t have confidence in their
leadership.
Opposition Leader Ranil Wickremesinghe has failed in giving
successful leadership to his party. He signed the ceasefire agreement
with the LTTE. The people know that the ceasefire agreement strengthened
the LTTE,” the Minister said.
“The Government is waging a war against terrorism. In a few days our
brave soldiers will capture Kilinochchi. Last week, P. Nadeshan, so
called IGP of LTTE said in their web site that they are ready to leave
Kilinochchi,” he said. Media and Information Minister Anura
Priyadharshana Yapa said the Government must win this PC election.
“Hundreds of UNP members are joing us as many UNP and JVP members are
disappointed with their leadership,” he said. |
