Dhaneshi Yatawara in Jaffna
The second successful day of the 'Future Minds of Jaffna' exhibition
was held yesterday with a mammoth crowd flowing from all parts of the
peninsula.
Curfew hours are narrowed throughout the three days of exhibitions.
Curfew will be imposed only by midnight and will be lifted next day 4.30
a.m., Jaffna Security Forces Commander Major General G.A. Chandrasiri
said.
Continuous transport facilities are available for the people to
facilitate the most needy people of rural areas. "A part of this, fleet
of buses will transport passengers free of charge, sponsored by the
Army," Jaffna Security Forces Commander Major General G.A. Chandrasiri
said.
Five hundred policemen and women are on duty specially for the
exhibition.
Deputy Inspector General of Northern Range Franklyn Fernando said the
strength of the police officers in Jaffna was totally sufficient to
protect law and order and to assist the civil administration,
particularly during these busy days.
Thanking the Army for adding extra effort to initiate such an event,
Social Services and Social Welfare Minister Douglas Devananda said this
event was a golden opportunity for the public and it addressed the
essential requirements of the people of Jaffna, well identified by the
organisers.
"We clearly understand the needs of our people since we were with
them facing all the changes that happened in Jaffna," Minister Devananda
added.
He said some of these politicians, who clearly represent the voice of
the LTTE yet claim to be the so called people's representatives are were
not in a position to return to their people.
"If there is any negative impression in the minds of people about
politicians its' solely due to activities of the Tiger nominated
agents," he noted.
"We well know that people, when they get an opportunity to
democratically select their political representatives, these LTTE
blessed politicians will be chased out by their own people," Devananda
warned.
