New rowing club formed in Bolgoda

A rowing club to encourage rowing among schoolchildren and other institutions was launched at the Bolgoda lake with the name Bolgoda Lake Rowing Club.

The main purpose of forming this club at the Ranmal Holiday Resort was to encourage rowing. This sport is only reserved for Colombo's Popular schoolchildren and high class family members at present distinguished panel of Colombo rowers Deva Henry, President Amatuer Rowing Association of Sri Lanka, Maheel Gamage Coach Moratuwa University. Rowing team Lakmal Wickremage National Coach Rowing, Rohan Fernando Coach Sri Lanka Amature Rowing Association, other Sports lovers were Present at the inaugural day last Saturday.

They participated at an awareness programme launched by the Bolgoda lake Rowing club officials led by Sithira Wickramasekera a Director of the Ranmal Holiday Resort Ltd, Gorakana, Moratuwa.

The Moratuwa University Rowing Club have rendered all facilities to the Bolgoda Lake Rowing Club officials to carry out their operation. The Bolgoda Lake as a natural lake and a very safe lake un Kalutara District.

Deva Henry, President, Amateur Rowing Association of Sri Lanka said "The Sport rowing is a very popular sports among youths in Colombo. The sport lovers in the other parts of the country are unable to come to Colombo and engage in rowing. Therefore the Amature Rowing Association of Sri Lanka and the Moratuwa University Rowing Team decided to introduce. Rowing to Bolgoda lake with the help of the Ranmal Holiday Resort a pioneer in the hospitality trade and tourism in the Bolgoda lake. Deva Henry said next year the National Rowing Championship will be held at the Bolgoda Lake the most popular lake in the country.

Sithira Samarasekera, a Director of he Ranmal Holiday Resort paid a glowing tribute to all participants with Deva Henry, Mahel Gamage coach Moratuwa University Row Team, Rohan Fernando, Lasantha Welikala, Coach Musaeus College, Colombo, Principal Prince of Wales College and other sports lovers who were present at the Rowing Sports awareness programme was held at the Ranmal Holiday Resort situated at the bank of the Bolgoda Lake.
