Two minutes silence today
Two minutes silence will be observed today from 9.25 a.m. to 9.27
a.m. in remembrance of all Sri Lankans who lost their lives in natural
disasters, including the victims of the December 2004 Tsunami.
The meeting of chief examiners of Mathematics scheduled for December
26 and 27, 2008 has been postponed, said a press release issued by the
Commissioner General of Examinations Anura Edirisinghe.
Chief Examiners' meetings for other subjects will be held as
scheduled, it further said.
Good news for SLTB workers
The Government has allocated Rs. 179 million to settle the arrears in
due Cost of Living payments of 38,852 employees of the Sri Lanka
Transport Board (SLTB) on a special request of Transport Minister Dullas
Alahapperuma. President Mahinda Rajapaksa as Finance Minister has
directed the Treasury to release the money.
Already 36,018 SLTB employees have been paid the arrears of Cost of
Living, with each employee receiving Rs. 5,000, a spokesman for the
Transport Ministry told the Daily News.
Bonus for Engineering Corp workers
State Engineering Corporation of Sri Lanka (SECSL) employees will be
paid a maximum bonus of Rs. 10,000 today since the Corporation was
making profits, Construction and Engineering Services Minister Rajitha
Senaratne said. He said there were 2,300 employees at the SECSL and the
Ministry had taken measures to increase benefits to the employees
including ETF/ EPF payments.
