Road renovation drive gets underway

Repairing of countrywide main roads damaged due to recent heavy rains
has been commenced by the Road Development Authority (RDA) on a
directive of Highways Minister T.B. Ekanayaka.
The Government has allocated Rs. 300 million for the project.
According to a senior RDA official, nearly 60 per cent of main roads as
well as highways need urgent repairs following the last month's rains
and floods experienced in many parts of the country.
Minister Ekanayaka told the Daily News that material and equipment
will be dispatched to renovate the roads which have been severely
damaged.
He said after renovating the roads, damaged bridges and culverts will
also be repaired.
RDA, Project Engineer J. Sirinivasa said all provincial engineers
were directed to complete the renovation work as early as possible.
The Minister also said steps will also be taken to carry out a full
repair on the Colombo- Horana main road. |
