Lankans bag gold in Inventors' Awards

Two Sri Lankan scholars, Prof. K. D. N. Weerasinghe and Jayashanka
Seneviratne recently received a gold medal from the International
Federation of Inventors' Association (IFIA) for inventing a modern
computer electronic equipment used to measure the intensity of rainfall
and forecasting weather, floods and earth slips.
The award ceremony was held in Suzhou, China in the presence of a
large number of Sri Lankan expatriates. A ceremony was also held in
Colombo to felicitate the two gold medallists. Prof. Weerasinghe and
Seneviratna are attached to the Agro-Science Technology Institute,
Mapalagama.
Prof. Weerasinghe said competitors from 45 countries across the world
took part in the competition.
In a special message by Science and Technology Minister Prof. Tissa
Vitharana thanked the two Sri Lankans for their efforts.
He has also assured the Ministry's assistance to help inventors.
