Development drive in Aturaliya

The first phase of the development work on Talahagama village, a
remote village in Aturaliya Divisional Secretariat area has been
completed under the Jathika Saviya Gama Neguma programme by the Southern
Development Authority (SDA).
Three internal roads have been developed providing transport
facilities for people in the village. Rs. 3 million has been spent on
the development of the three roads by the SDA.
Low income families will get 38 houses built at a cost of Rs. 3.8
million.
Under the rehabilitation move of abandoned tea and cinnamon lands,
nearly 50 low income families greatly benefited by the assistance
provided by the authority to improve their small lands.
A vocational training centre and a community hall were also
constructed at a cost of Rs. 2 million.
Unemployed youth are attending in carpentry and masonry training
courses at this vocational training centre.
A home gardening programme was also initiated under Api Wawamu Rata
Nagamu. K.G. Amaradasa, Member of the Aturaliya Pradeshiya Sabha told
the Daily News the second step of the development of this village will
begin next year providing more facilities to improve rural economy and
uplift the living condition of 412 families. |
