'Green Sri Lanka' next year

Haritha Lanka (Green Sri Lanka), a programme formulated by the Environment and Natural Resources Ministry will be carried out in 2009 Minister Patali Champika Ranawaka said.

According to the Minister, 'Haritha Lanka' is a program for improving biodiversity of the country.

All areas which should be protected for the future of the country will be protected and developed through this program, Ranawaka said.

This is a country which has a very high conservation value and exceptional biodiversity, he said.

According to him environmental conservation has become decisive when it comes to the existence of the world.

All countries should come forward with plans for environmental conservation or will have to face adverse effects of environment pollution.

Programs like Haritha Lanka are aimed at protecting Sri lanka and contribute to the global effort to protect environment, he said.
