'State revenue vital to fight terrorism'

Jathika Hela Urumaya Leader Ven. Ellawala Medhananda Thera yesterday urged the Government to maintain its revenue reserves on a firm footing as funds are needed to develop the country as well as to strengthen its humanitarian operations to liberate the country from LTTE terrorism.

The Thera said the collection of State revenue through taxation is vital to enforce its humanitarian operations in the North.

"The all important economic strength to fight terrorism predominantly rests on State revenue through various taxation, and if that process is hampered, it can have adverse effects on its current steps taken towards development of the country and eradication of terrorism," he pointed out.

He said it's a universally accepted code of law to pay taxes to the ruler.
