Seylan Bank netball champs

The challenge cup of the Cup Tournament of the Inter Company Netball championship 2008 organised by Sri Lanka Sports Com. was won by Seylan Bank. Sri Lanka Sports Netball Challenge was played under a new format and was for Cup/Plate/Bow/ and Shield Championships.

16 top teams representing prestigious companies took part in the tournament, 16 teams were grouped into pools of four.

Janashakthi Insurance and Sri Lanka Insurance qualified for the finals in the shield tournament. Janashakthi clinched the championship title and runner-up Sri Lanka Insurance.

The finals of the bowl tournament HSBC Bank won the title and Ceylon Biscuits (Ltd) the runner up.

Ceylinco group and David Peiris Motor Company qualified for the finals of the plate tournament. Ceylinco team won the title and the runner up was David Peiris Motor Company.

Cup finals was played between Commercial Bank and Seylan Bank where Seylan Bank team secured the Championship Cup. The runner up was Commercial Bank. The overall championship of the tournament was also clinched by the Seylan Bank team. Hishan Welmilla organised the tournament on behalf of Sri Lanka Sports.com.

Academy of Netball-Kotte headed by Mrs. Thilaka Jinadasa provided technical assistance for the tournament while Former Director of National Institute of Sports Science Yogananda Wijesundara was the tournament referee.

The programme was sponsored by F & G Group and the Deputy Chairman of F & G Group Merveyn Jayasinghe was the chief guest. The chairperson of the Netball Interim Board Mrs. Ajantha Wijesundara also graced the occasion.
