Beach Volleyball Nationals at Mt. Lavinia

The National Beach Volleyball Championship 2008 organised by Sri Lanka Volleyball Federation and Beach Volleyball Federation and sponsored by Mount Lavinia Hotel will be held on December 6-7 at Paradise Beach, Mount Lavinia.

The preliminary rounds of the championship which was held at Aluthgama and Negombo saw 16 men's and 07 women's teams qualify for the final stage. The two finals are scheduled to commence at 3.00 p.m. on Sunday with the Minister for Sports and Public Recreation as chief guest.

According to an official, players are to be selected from this tournament to set up the National Pool as they have to undergo training with the intention of representing the country at the forthcoming Asian Volleyball Championships in 2009. The teams participating are men, Sri Lanka Ports Authority, Thotagamuwa SC 'B', SLPA 'D', Thotagamuwa SC 'A', SLPA 'F', Club Bentota, SLPA 'E', Golden Heart SC 'B', Air Force 'A', Air Force 'B', Slim Line SC, Browns Beach, Air Force 'C' and two unattached teams. Women - Railway SC, SLPA 'A', Vijaya Mahabellana SC, Pitipana SC, SLPA 'B', Air Force 'A', Air Force 'B'.
