Reggie Candappa Awards fetes talent

The advertising industry toasted the life and legacy of industry legend Reggie Candappa at the 5th Reggie Candappa Creative Awards (RCCA) which was held on Wednesday at the Ceylon Continental Hotel and brought together the big and small of Sri Lanka's advertising industry and other glitterati in a unified appreciation of the craft of advertising.

Popularly known as the 'Reggies', the awards ceremony this year commenced with an audio visual that portrayed the life and work of Reggie Candappa, closely followed by a brilliant skit that was in line with this year's creative theme for the Reggies - 'Is your craft in Place?' - a satirical play on all those elements that need to come together for a successful campaign.

Daughter of Reggie Candappa and Founder Member of the Reggie Candappa Foundation for the Arts, Neela Marikkar shared her thoughts on the awards this year, "The Reggies have grown in stature and recognition every year since its inception and we have seen the craft of advertising get better and better.

We are delighted to facilitate the Reggies year after year, giving the industry a platform where their creative work can be recognized and rewarded as a pure craft.

The Reggie Candappa Foundation for the Arts will continue to serve as a catalyst in improving the creative artistry of the industry and inspire it to reach new levels of excellence. "

The Reggie Candappa Creative Awards are indeed a fitting tribute to the life and work of a man who flamboyantly but modestly stood as the figurehead of Sri Lanka's advertising industry for nearly half a century. By rewarding and recognizing people striving for excellence in a craft that he loved and made a life's work of, the 'Reggies' help keep his dreams for Sri Lanka's ad industry alive.

The Reggie Candappa Creative awards was founded by the Reggie Candappa Foundation for the Arts in memory of the late 'Godfather of Advertising' to nurture and encourage the craft of advertising and ensure that work displaying true artistry are recognized and rewarded.

Holding the first Reggie Candappa Awards in 2004, The Reggie Candappa Foundation for the Arts has now made the "Reggies" an annual event, extending its scope and impact on the industry.

As the foundation strives to bolster the creative talent available in the industry, it also aims to create Scholarships and Exclusive Programmes on Creative Arts to assist the next generation of creatives to gather grounding in the craft.
