Seylan Bank Netball team emerged champions and Hatton National Bank team were runners-up at the Netball Tournament conducted by the Netball Interim Committee recently, at the Peradeniya University Gymnasium.

Six 'A' Group teams, 1 team of the 'C' Group (champions) champion team of the 'B' Group, champion team of under-20 and under-18. Altogether 10 teams participated in this tournament. These selections were made after the preliminary round matches which were held at Matara recently.

The following are the winning teams: Champion - Seylan Bank team; Runners-up - Hatton National Bank team; 2nd Runners-up - Sri Lanka Air Force team; 4th place - Speed Max team; Colombo Best Shooter - Tharanganie Sivalingam, Seylan Bank; Best Centre Court - Jayaliya Kumari, Seylan Bank; Best defence - Akila Jayawardena, Speed Max; Netball Queen - Samanthi Nilushika, Sri Lanka Air Force. This tournament was held as a trial to select the Sri Lanka Netball team for the forthcoming Asian Netball Championship to be held in Malaysia in 2009.
