Troops enter Periyakulam

The Army's 59 Division advancing from the east of Mullaitivu yesterday entered Periyakulam.

The soldiers continuing their westward thrust from Otiyamalai advanced for about 1 km destroying all LTTE hideouts up to the Periyakulam hamlet 4 km east of strategic Nadunkerni town.

Another group of soldiers of the same Division marched eastwards in the Alampil area along the East coast repulsing LTTE attacks, the military said. The soldiers will continue their advance.

Religious ceremony to boost forces morale

A religious ceremony to boost the morale of the armed forces organised on the initiative of Labour Minister, Mervyn Silva will be held today at 4.00 p.m. at the Kelaniya Rajamaha Viharaya under the patronage of its Chief Incumbent.

The occasion provides for bestowing merit to the dead soldiers, invoking blessings on the disabled and attending to the outstanding needs of their parents.

Charity Bazzar

The Sri Lanka Cancer Society is organising a Charity Bazaar to be held in the premises of the Cathedral of Christ the Living Saviour, Bauddhaloka Mawatha, Colombo 07 on December 06, from 8.30 a.m. to raise funds for the Society's activities and will have on Sale Produce, Gifts, Christmas Fare, Household Needs, Lunches, Sweets, Jams and Chutneys and many more items that are in demand during the Christmas Season, at very competitive prices.

Youth Media academy course

The fourth batch of the Youth Media Academy of the National Youth Services Council will be conducted from December 4th to December 17 at the National Youth Centre, Maharagama.

This course is being conducted by Horana Sripale Faculty of Mass Media and Information Technology in collaboration with the NYSC.

The Dean of the Faculty Dr. Tudor Weerasinghe and Dr. Ranjan Hettiarachchi coordinate the programme.

Thomian Colours Nite

Awarding of colours for the year 2008 for those who have participated in eighteen sports disciplines will be held on December 9 at the College Hall commencing at 5.00 p.m.

The chief guest will be former Thomian and All Ceylon Cricket captain Anura Tennekoon.

The anniversary meeting and get-together of the Kelaniya University Alumni Association will be held on Saturday 6, 2008 at the Kelaniya Inn, Mahara.

The Ceylon Association For The Mentally Retarded will be holding a Performing Arts competition at the John de Silva Memorial Theatre, Colombo 7 December 6 from 1.00 pm. - 6.00 p.m.

Around 250 Mentally Retarded persons from 18 centers - in various parts of the country other than in the North, East and North West - are scheduled to participate at the above event, to commemorate the International Day for the Disabled which falls on the 3rd of December every year.

The event is being co-sponsored by The Sri Lanka Tele Communication (PLC).
