Court Registrar directed to obtain report from medical officer

Welikada High Court Judge Lalith Jayasuriya directed the Court Registrar Piyarathna Muthkumarana to obtain a report from the Welikada Prison Medical Officer whether he had issued a medical certificate to a suspect in the remand custody in connection with the possession of heroin.

The Judge made this order following an application by the Counsel for the suspect that he had been suffering from fever and unable to attend court on the last occasion. He produced a medical certificate from the Remand Prison Medical Officer.

The Judge perusing the Medical Certificate directed the Court Registrar to ascertain the authenticity of the certificate and report to court.When the suspect was not present in court on the earlier occasion the Judge issued a warrant for his arrest.Senior State Counsel Riyas Bari appeared for the prosecution.
