Dockyard launches anchor handling tug supply vessel

Colombo Dockyard PLC (CDPLC) launched the fourth Anchor Handling Tug Supply Vessel (AHTSV) built for Greatship Global Offshore Services Limited of Singapore (GGOSL).

The speciality of the launching was that this marks the first vessel built by assembling units on top of a Barge due to space constraints faced by the premier shipbuilding yard in Colombo.

GGOSL is a wholly owned subsidiary of one of India’s largest private sector shipping companies, the Great Eastern Shipping Company, who is in the business of providing offshore oil field services catering to the oil and gas E&P domain.

The first AHTSV Greatship Anjali was delivered in January 2008, the second AHTSV Greatship Amrita was delivered in April 2008.

The third AHTSV Greatship Abha is being outfitted and is scheduled to be delivered in January 2009.

This fourth AHTSV Greatship Aditi will immediately go in for machinery installation, piping, electrical and ship outfitting work and will join her sister vessels in April 2009.

Colombo Dockyard PLC 3rd quarter cumulative performance showed an overall revenue growth of 28%, the revenue recorded Rs. 7,169 million, Rs. 987 million net profit marked a 38% growth over the same period in 2007.

The shareholder funds Rs. 3,965 million recording a 25% growth against the same period in 2007. The market value recorded a 65% growth with EPS also showing a growth of 31%.

Justifying the achievements of this blue chip business entity, Colombo Dockyard’s role in the local business community was acknowledged when CDPLC won the prestigious Ten Best Corporate Citizen Award 2008 Top Ten Category Winner and overall Winner - Less than Rs. 10 Billion turnover category.

These prestigious awards are awarded by the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce, Sri Lanka, for its performance during year 2008.

The vessel was launched by K. Bhaskaran who participated on behalf of the owners. S. Tatebe (Chairman), Mangala P.B. Yapa (Managing Director/CEO) Y. Kijima (Director), the senior management and staff of CDPLC participated at this event.
