Tigers killed, weapons seized

Security Forces ambushed a group of LTTEers ahead of the newly
captured LTTE FDL's in Kilaly, Jaffna killing a number of Tiger cadres
and recovered a haul of weapons yesterday morning.
Military spokesman Brigadier Udaya Nanayakkara said troops attached
to the 53-division consolidating their position at the captured LTTE
defence line north of the A9 road, Kilaly observed an LTTE movement and
stage the ambush.
"Troops ambushed the LTTEers and the fleeing Tiger cadres suffered
heavy casualties in the confrontation at around 7.40am," he added.
He said in a subsequent search operation, troops uncovered two T56
assault rifles, an RPG and body armour.
Meanwhile, the LTTE detonated a claymore mine targeting Security
Forces killing two soldiers in Kalawanchikudi, Batticaloa.
Brigadier Nanayakkara said two soldiers died in the claymore
explosion at the Kurumanweli Jetty area on Eruvil road, Kalawanchikudi
at around 7.15am. |
