Pre-X'mas sale

A pre-X'mas bargain sale organised by the Sri Lanka Housewives' Association will be held on Saturday from 9.00 a.m at the Public Library Auditorium, Colombo. Sixty stalls comprising variety of goods including sarees, readymade garments, costume jewellery, cake ingredients, home made jams and chutneys for the festive season will be available at special rates.


Seminar on Poland

A seminar on "Poland - The Emerging Economy in the EU organised by the Sri Lankan Poland Business Council. Ceylon Chamber of Commerce in partnership with the Embassy of Poland, in New Delhi and the Export Development Board will be held on December 3 at Upper Crystal Room, Hotel Taj Samudra from 9.00 a.m. to 1.00 p.m. The objective is to create an awareness of the growing potential developing trade and investment between Sri Lanka and Poland.


Look out for new moon

A Conference will be held under the auspices of the Colombo Grand Mosque at the Madrasathul Hameediah Hall on November 28 to decide on the beginning of the Islamic month of Ibul Hijja Hijri 1429 on the evidence of sighting the new moon in any part of Sri Lanka. The Colombo Grand Mosque appealed to Muslims to look out for the new moon on November 28 after Magrib prayers (5.52 pm).

If the new moon is sighted, inform the Colombo Grand Mosque on 2432110, 2390783, 2434651 or 0777 366099.


Donation to war heroes

A large stock of bottled water and other utility goods collected from 20 Divisional Secretariat Divisions in the Kandy District for War Heroes will be handed over to the Security Forces at the Kandy District Secretariat this morning (November 26).


Website launch

The Foreign Employment Promotion and Welfare Ministry's new website will be opened on Friday 28 at 10 a.m.at Minister Dr. Keheliya Rambukwella's residence at No. 61, 62B Papet Road, Colombo

The new website will largely facilitate the search for foreign employment by the local applicants. Easy access to the website will further enable them to ascertain the demand for various categories in the job market and the required qualifications.

Ministers and MPs are expected to participate.


O/Level Day

The G.C.E. O/Level day of Kalmunai Zahira college will be held today at 9.00 a.m. at the Gate Mudaliyar M. S. Kariapper hall.

Zonal Education Director Kalmunai M. J. Abdul Nizam will be the Chief Guest.


Blood donation

A blood donation campaign for soldiers will be held tomorrow from 9.00 a.m. to 4.00 p.m. at the Employees Co-operative Bank, Sri Lanka ports Authority.


Diploma in Specific Learning Disabilities

The Higher Education Ministry commenced its Asian Distance Education Modernisation Project in 2003 to increase the access to higher education by introducing technology enhanced distance delivery.

The National Online Distance Learning Services (NODES) comprising a Network Operation Centre is located in Borella from which a high speed of 2 Mbps high speed network connects to NODES Access Centres in several areas of our country to meet this objective. At a media conference on November 20 the Ladies' College Vocational Studies Department jointly with the Asian Development Bank and the DEMP launched a diploma course in Specific Learning Disabilities on line which is a special teacher training course. The course prepares learners to be effective teachers when dealing with students with certain neurological disorders, which affect the acquisition, retention, understanding, organisation or use of verbal or non verbal information.

N. S. Abeywardena, Project Director Distance Education Modernisation Project representing the Government spoke on the need of on line study.
