CFA the greatest betrayal - Minister Ranawaka

KOTTE: Environment and Natural Resources Minister Patali Champika Ranawaka yesterday stated in Parliament that the betrayal of the most grievous nature in the Sri Lankan history was the Ranil-Prabhakaran agreement.

The LTTE could assassinate hundreds of Forces personnel during the Ranasinghe Premadasa regime as the army camps were withdrawn. The UNP that acted in such a mannar is today attempting to mislead the Parliament by saying the Jathika Hela Urumaya has agreed to a ceasefire. Minister Ranawaka stressed that JHU has never spoken of a ceasefire and there is no need to discuss with the

LTTe if they do not put aside their weapons.

The Minister also stated that the JHU expressed its support to the Mahinda Chintanaya to bring lasting peace to the country and emphasised it is still adhering to that same stance.

Minister Ranawaka made this observation during the Budget debate in answering to the allegations made by the UNP members Laxman Kiriella and P. Harison that JHU had agreed for a ceasefire.
