Troops regain Devil's Point

Task Force 1 broke through the West of Killinochchi and regained the
LTTE's strategically important Devil's Point and Valleipadu yesterday
morning confining the Tigers only within Pooneryn.
Addressing the media yesterday on the security situation, Military
spokesman Brigadier Udaya Nanayakkara said Task Force 1 gained another
victory entering the West flank of the Killinochchi battle front and
captured Devil's Pointand Valleipadu in morning. "This is another blow
to the LTTE as their entire sea activities will be limited only to
Poonaryn with the fall of the strategically important coastal LTTE
fortification", he added.
Brigadier Nanayakkara noted that around 5,000 soldiers had been
enlisted to the Army at the first stage of recruitment commenced on
November 01.
The amnesty period for Army deserters and will end midnight tomorrow
(15). We urge them to report their respective camps before the
deadline", Brigadier Nanayakkara said.
He said around 6,749 Army deserters had been arrested, around 6,173
had surrendered, and around 800 not reported 1,496 were imprisoned as at
November 1. |
