Language Institute opens on Nov 16

The National Institute of Language Education and Education established in terms of National Language and Training Institute Act No. 26 of 2007 will be opened on November 16 at Galewatte, Agalawatte.

Producing competent teachers for the teaching of Sinhala, Tamil and English producing interpreters of national languages and providing services to ensure langauge rights in the State sector are some of the objectives expected to be realised under the programme of activities envisaged.

Bank robbery

Two armed men stormed into Madawala Rural Bank at Polgolla around 10 a.m. yesterday and made off with Rs. 40,000 after breaking open the safe and trussing up the two employees.

It is alleged that these two robbers had come on a motorcycle wearing helmets and posed as persons planning to pawn a bracelet at the bank and committed the crime. Wattegama Police is continuing further investigations.
