Marijuana valued at over Rs 4.5m seized

The Narcotics Bureau raided a cannabis plantation in Thanamalvila and
seized a stock of marijuana worth Rs.4.5 million and arrested four
suspects.
Commissioner General of Excise Wasantha Hapuarachchi said a team
deployed under the Narcotics Bureau Superintendent Upul Seneviratna
rounded up several racketeers involved in the cannabis trade and seized
282 kgs of cannabis in a jungle, seven miles from Hambegamuwa.
“The team stationed at a guest house pretending to be buyers rounded
up the culprits and seized the marijuana plants valued at Rs 4.5 million
which were on sale,” he added.
Following interrogation, the suspects had revealed that they had been
running this business for years.
Four suspects were produced before the Thanamalvila Magistrate.
